Army Command Headquarters issued a press release to “the military tears down historical cannon bunker from the 823 Artillery Bombardment”.

Kinmen Defense Command elaborates today (2nd ) on the media coverage of “the military tears down historical cannon bunker from the 823 Artillery Bombardment” and states that the reported cannon bunker on Sanshi Mountain was in fact built in 1971 and has nothing to do with the 823 Artillery Bombardment. The structure, which is not more than 50 years old, also does not fall under Article 15 of Cultural Heritage Preservation Act. The Command wishes to thank the public’s attention and care about military history antiques.

Kinmen Defense Command wishes to stress that, in the implementation of the “return land to the people” policy and safeguarding their rights, the Command carries out return operations after tearing down the structure on land upon the request of the land owners. However, such operations are always done after requesting an assessment by the cultural competent authorities, regardless of whether the time of construction falls under the provisions of the Cultural Heritage Preservation Act.
